Danity Kane continues the shows with "showstopper"

Danity Kane is a group of five talented young women that rose to fame through MTV’s Making the Band 3, a reality TV show created by Sean Combs a.k.a. Diddy.

During the first season of Making the Band 3, hundreds of young women auditioned to be on the show but only twenty one girls were chosen to compete to be in the band. At the end of the season, the five most talented girls were picked. Their names are Aubrey O’Day, Aundrea Fimbres, Dawn Richard, Wanita Woodgette a.k.a. D.Woods, and Shannon Bex.

According to www.danitykane.com, Aubrey came from Palm Springs, Calif. and graduated from University of Calif. in Irvine. Aundrea was born in from Calif. and is the youngest in her family. Dawn comes from New Orleans and was a cheerleader for the New Orleans Hornets. D.Woods is from Springfield, Mass. and learned all kinds of dances from ballet to hip-hop to West African. Shannon left Portland, Ore. to be part of the band and is the only one in the band who is married. On the day that their single was released, they announced that their name was Danity Kane. The name, Danity Kane, is based on an anime superhero that was drawn and made up by Dawn.

In the second season of Making the Band 3, the girls work on their first album. During the beginning of the season, the girls came together to perform on a float at New Orleans for Mardi Gras. At the end of the season, they performed on stage in New York for their first concert.

During this season the band trained their voices with R&B legend Betty Wright, lived in a home with infested mice, and recorded in the studio with producer Johnny Wright. The group faced many problems such as nervousness from singing in front of Diddy. The biggest problems happened during the shooting their first video. The choreographer, Laurie Ann Gibson, became mad when she heard that they did not know which version of “Showstopper” they were going to dance to in the video. D. Woods did not know how to drive the car in the video and they had to make the video before sunrise because they didn’t want light in the video.

After the group’s first single came out, they grew more famous. Their hit single, “Showstopper,” played on radio stations constantly and their video was on the TRL and BET countdowns for quite a while.

The billboard charts are the ones that show how successful Danity Kane has become. According to billboard.com, their self-titled album knocked pop artist Christina Aguilera’s album to No. 3 and debuted at No. 1 selling about 234,000 copies, making it the seventh No.1 album for Bad Boy Records. Danity Kane was holding strong at No. 2 the next week selling 117,000 copies. They beat out the other two bands Combs put together. The first band, O-town, sold 145,000, debuting at No. 5 on the charts. And the second band, Da Band, sold 204,000 copies, debuting at No. 2.

I think Danity Kane deserves to be where they are now because they worked really hard on their album. I’m sure many people are hoping they come out with another one. The self-titled album which features the single, “Showstopper,” and well known songs such as, “One Shot” and “Hold Me Down,” is in stores now.
