"The Covenant" covers action equation

Sony Pictures’ new film, “The Covenant,” directed by Renny Harlin (Exorcist: The Beginning) stars Steven Strait, who plays Caleb Danvers a student who attends spencer Academy at Ipswich, focuses on more than pretty boys with powers.

“The Covenant”, is about five families with powers unknown to the world: Davers, Parry, Garwin, Sims, and Collins, who made a covenant (pact or agreement) to not tell of their powers in 1692. The group consisted of Caleb Danvers (Strait), Pogue Parry (Taylor Kitsch), Reid Garwin (Toby Hemingway), and Tyler Sims (Chace Crawford).

The first time I heard of this movie, I wanted to see it not only for it’s storyline but because it was created by the producers of one of my favorite movies, Underworld. The movie was filled with nice special effects, good acting, great storyline, and to top it all off, awesome action. The movie kept me at the edge of my seat and there were many parts in the movie where I had only one eye open. The leading actor and actress in this movie, Steven Strait (Sky High) and Laura Ramsey (She’s the Man), were good at portraying their characters correctly. The characters really looked like they had chemistry. The beginning of the movie was slow-paced but when they reached to the climax of this film, the movie started moving faster.

The movie is overall good considering that these new actors and actresses come together to create a film that draws attention to not only teenagers but adults too. The movie has intense violence and action, disturbing images, sexual content, partial nudity and bad language, which gave it a PG-13 rating. If you’re near a movie theatre and want to see a worthwhile movie, consider watching “The Covenant.”
