Blaqk is wack

Blaqk Audio is the new side project of AFI’s lead singer, Davey Havoc and guitarist Jade Puget. In order to understand Blaqk Audio, you would need to know the band, AFI’s background. AFI, which stands for A Fire Inside, is an overrated pop-rock band that originated from the Bay Area. The had some great hits until December underground, which thanks to MTV, brought the band to instant pop fame and captured the attention of all pre-teens across America. Lead singer Davey Havok is a C-class pseudo-celebrity who is commonly seen with MySpace transvestite celebrity, Jeffree Star. At the peak of AFI’s pseudo-stardom, they signed on to Interscope Records, further asserting that this band has “sold out.” Blaqk Audio is an Electronica project, which truly shows that Interscope Records makes their artists sell their souls and abandon their dignity to follow the latest trends. Though I’m not a fan of AFI, Blaqk Audio is the poorest possible substitute for the music that these band members normally create. Blaqk Audio embarrasses the entirety of the Electronica genre. It is a combination of whiny vocals, which are as unflattering as they are annoying, and embarrassingly bad synthesized melodies that anybody with a computer can make in a single afternoon, doesn’t account for a good band. Their debut album, Cexcells released on August 14 contains cliché and generic goth-inspired Elect-ronica that I can’t even pretend to enjoy. It is the worst excuse of Electro-nica music that I have ever heard. It is still a mystery to me how this band made it to the top of the US Top Electronic Albums list. I wouldn’t suggest this album to anybody who’s not a Hot Topic “mall rat.” If you would like to check out some good Electronica, I suggest Air, Chemical Brothers, and Ladytron.

I would rate this one star out of five.
