Little summer reading blues

What would you do if you were mysterically given 13 envelopes?Especially from a close relative who took off without a word, and never was seen or heard from again.

“13 Little Blue Envelopes” by Maureen Johnson is about seventeen year old Ginny Blackstone receiving a packet of envelopes from her aunt, Peg.Her adventure begins as Ginny opens the envelopes one by one.Following the directions to where she will go next, she doesn’t know what the next envelope has in store. But in order to play this game, there are rules she must obey.

For example, rule number one is to bring only what fit in a small, portable backpack.Don’t cheat and bring along a purse or carry-on instead. Rule number two is to don’t bring along any guidebooks, phrase books or any kind of foreign language aid.Rule number three is to don’t bring any extra money, credit, debit cards or travelers checks. It also leaves a note saying that her aunt Peg will take care of everything. The last rule of all, is no eletronics, whatsoever. She also can’t call home or communicate with other people in the U.S. by internet or telephone. But postcard and letters are acceptable and encouraged. The second envelope contains one thousand dollars for a one-way ticket from New York and then London. The envelope also explains why her beloved aunt left.

Once she arrive to London she was assigned to find some kind of art. As she explores, she goes to sees a musical called “Starbucks the Musical” which she then fell in love with the director named Keith. After meeting her grandmother, she had another task for her in Rome. The task is to ask a boy or a girl for a cake. Paris was the next place to go and once she got there, she had to look for a tiny cafe. Not just any but, one her aunt spent months decorating and painting. Then Amsterdam and beyond as Ginny gets closer in gettig to the last envelope.

I personally enjoyed reading 13 Little Blue Envelopes it gave me lots of suspence, in knowing what the next envelope will contain. While Ginny traveling all by herself goes from country-to-country, not knowing what to expect. But what really bothered me was to the end, as the last envelope was approched. And it ended up aa a bummer as you read further and later get to know what happen to the last envelope. And how Ginny never knows exactly, what the last envelope says.
