NBC's 'Heroes' to the rescue

If you’re a big fan of the X-Men or the Justice League, the perfect show for you is NBC’s Heroes. Starring Bring It On: All or Nothing’s, Hayden Panettierre as the indestructible cheerleader Claire Bennett, this show will definitely draw you into its overwhelming mysteries. Heroes, follows various stories of humans with special abilities and how they are all connected. Some use their abilities to try to save the world and some use them in order to gain power. But most are afraid of their gift. The most well-known story is about the Japanese time-traveler, Hiro Nakamura, who is played by Masi Oka. Hiro, a comic fanatic, believes he is destined to become a hero and save the world. Hiro is usually accompanied by his best friend Ando, who isn’t quite sure of his destiny. Hiro always seem so confident in his powers and speaks mostly Japanese throughout the whole season, making him the most hilarious character out of all the heroes.
The most interesting and my personal favorite story is Nikki Sanders, played by Final Destination’s Ali Larter. Larter’s character develops a multiple personality disorder. Her body is shared between herself, Nikki, and her deceased sister, Jessica. Nikki is the actual person, who loves and cares for her family. She wouldn’t hurt anyone. Jessica is the sister who fights and she has what seems like super strength.
The two most important characters are Peter Petrelli and Mohinder Suresh, played by Milo Ventimiglia and Sendhil Ramaurthy. Peter’s power is to temporarily obtain the powers of other heroes. His flying brother, Nathan, is running for Congress.
Their relationship is a very confusing one. Nathan cares for his brother, yet doesn’t like the fact that his brother wants to risk his life to save the world. Mohinder Suresh has no power at all. The story is mainly about Mohinder’s search for heroes. His father was a famous research professor with a theory that a gene in the back of the brain allows certain humans to use phenomenal abilities. Throughout this season, the main goal was to stop an exploding man from destroying most of the New York City. The other heroes include mind-reader Matt Parkman, Isaac Mendez, who paints the future, and the memory-stealing Haitian. Their first mission was to save the cheerleader, and then afterwards stop Sylar.
Sylar is the villain of Heroes. He didn’t have any special abilities at first, but he became power-hungry. He cuts the head of heroes open, and takes their brain to obtain their power. He starts going after all the heroes to be the only one with supernatural powers.
The season finale was a little disappointing. I expected much more action and much more suspense. The new season starts off where the last one ended. In the first episode, you find out the fate of Nathan and Peter. And you learn of the new problems and surprises the heroes face. The new season began on Monday, September 24, 2007, at nine o’clock on the NBC network.
