An influence on lives

The curtain rises and the action begins! ‘Living Under the Influence’ was a play held at Abraham Lincoln High School on October 23th. The actors and actresses are from Los Angeles and work for an organization called the Educational Theater Company. ETC is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and enlightening young people with positive messages.

‘Living Under the Influence’ included characters such as a teenager named Danny, his girlfriend Kim, their best friend Curtis and the source of Dangerous Substance. The Dangerous Substance character was someone who knew the effects of taking nicotine, alcohol and marijuana. The play demonstrated how serious taking dangerous substances can be and what happens once you become addicted.

The drugs mentioned during the play are some in which Lincoln’s students have or curently experiencing. I believe that many students would know more and care more about the usage of drugs. They would benefit from the knowledge of how drugs affects their brain and body in the long term run. Sadly, some students doing drugs don’t go to class so they won’t get a chance to learn what might happens when doing drugs or alcohol.

As part of the audience, I believe it was a fun play to watch since it consisted of humor, action, and unique story techniques to present messages to teenagers and teachers in an interesting way.

I love the part where they portray teenagers and their reactions when they first tried the drug, and their attitudes and emotions towards it. It also shows what can happen to themselves and their relationships with friends and family. The way in which the actors and actresses portrayed real life problems and actions was really addicting.

It’s a shame that the fire drill interrupted the play leaving students with no opportunity to ask the actors and actresses any questions. Overall the play was wonderful and I am looking forward to see another production by the ETC soon.
