Pizza with Pizazz

Drop that remote, put down that greasy excuse for delivery pizza because tonight you’re going out for the real thing and you won’t even have to step foot out of the 415. Patxi’s on Hayes serves amazing Chicago-style pizza for a fairly good price.
Pronounced “pah-cheese,” this cozy little restaurant is a great substitute for that Friday night at home eating greasy delivery pizza. The atmosphere is warm and the servers are friendly. Their website does guarantee prompt service though one must wonder whether leering at any attractive women who come in is part of the waiters’ job description.
Smirking servers aside, the food is top-notch. A simple cheese pizza for four is just under twenty dollars but the portions are huge. Really, this kind of pizza isn’t for the faint of stomach. Just one slice is more than enough of a meal. In fact, using a knife and fork is highly recommended for tackling this entrée. Competitions may even begin over who can eat the most of this weighty dish. Don’t let the appearance throw you off either. Chicago-style means the pizza is basically backwards with the tomato sauce flipped on top of the cheese.
Patxi’s also serves traditional thin crust pizza for less than the Chicago-style. There’s also a build your own pizza option, offering a variety of toppings ranging from beef to soy cheese for those vegan diners (or lactose intolerant diners).
The salad of hideous iceberg lettuce, on the other hand wasn’t very impressive. Then again this lame excuse for a salad is common these days so there’s really no point in being a salad critic.
If you don’t mind the leering and pricing, and you’re looking for a pizza night away from the ordinary, get out of the house and go to Patxi’s.
