The Winter Concert has been a tradition at Abraham Lincoln High School since this school has been built. This year the Winter Concert was held in the auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007.

This seasonal event happens only once a year where we get to hear great music by the band and orchestra students. These talented students work hard every year to give a great performance for the students of Abraham Lincoln H.S. and for their families. The band and orchestra student work for an hour everyday and their hard work have showed because they gave a smashing performance for us.

“I love to perform and it’s very exciting to put our music together and share with family and friends,” said Don Armistead.

Armistead, a music teacher, have been teaching music at this school for four years and worked hard with his band and orchestra students for the Winter Concert. They made this concert a place to enjoy the holiday tunes during the winter season. Armistead has also been composing its own music. He composed and performed its piece at the Winter Concert with his concert band students. This piece was called “Festivus” and everybody enjoyed it.

“This year the beginner band has performed at the Winter Concert as if they have been performing for years and they were extremely good,” said Armistead.

The performances at the Winter Concert were by three groups of the band and orchestra students. For the beginning band, this was their first year performing at the Winter Concert.They sounded equally good as the other students who have performed at the Winter Concert before. The beginning band performed on much more basic songs than the concert band and string orchestra students. Some seasonal songs that were performed were “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

“There were a lot of different kinds of instruments that were put together and played for each different song,” said Armistead.

All the instruments were put together to make different types of music. The string orchestra didn’t use many different instruments except for the violins and the basses. The concert band used a lot of trumpets and the clarinets for their songs.

The beginning band performed with the flutes and the guitars. Each student used different instruments from one another and when they were put together they sounded great.

The Winter Concert was a fantastic way to start out my winter season and it definitely rose up to my expectations. It had great music and talented band and orchestra students who worked hard to make this a great concert. From observing this year’s Winter Concert, I know that next year’s concert will be even better than ever.
