A treasure worth keeping
Despite rain and low ticket sales, prom was still a hit
The Abraham Lincoln High School Junior and Senior prom was held on Treasure Island on April 21, 2007. Although there were some difficulties regarding the process of planning the prom, the dance managed to pull through smoothly.
This year’s prom sold approximately 65 tickets to the juniors including their guests and 390 tickets to seniors in addition to their guests. Due to the lack of ticket sales to the junior class, the plans for prom had to be changed in accords with the projected attendance.
The senior class sponsor, Jorge Goncalves, had to contact the prom planner, Ami Peterson, in order to change things around.
The prom attendees noticed the dance site looked plain, which was due to the lack of tickets sold for the prom this year. Goncalves had to work out the budget problems with Peterson, who was able to give ALHS a discount. She gave Lincoln High a discount letting the junior and senior classes pay $27,800 for the entire cost of prom, instead of $33,000. This discount
saved the junior and senior classes from having to take money from their own class accounts, which would have cut things from these classes. The senior class account this year also pays for the senior breakfast, senior dinner, and senior picnic.
Overall, several ALHS junior and senior enjoyed the prom.
“It was very nice, it was our senior prom, and it was just a great night to end our senior year,” said senior Greg Jew.
