Tremendous influx of new teachers hits Lincoln

“Who are you and where did you come,” from is the question being passed around. Many people have noticed the mass arrival of new teachers in Abraham Lincoln High School. New teachers have appeared in many departments such as Physical Education, Math, English, Art, and Social Science. Additions to the faculty have also been made. Debra Lee is the new Dean and the new college and career counselor is Harlan Edelman. Carol Turner, Mark Almeida, Adam Jacobs, Elizabeth Raupers, Thomas Hosteler, Lisa Wesrlund, Christian Geiser, John Hutchinson, Richard Sylvester and Jodi Cohen are among the many new faces of Lincoln’s staff.

Harlan Edelman is one of the many new faces of the faculty in Lincoln. To be exact, he is the new college and career counselor.

He was a social studies teacher and guidance counselor in Lowell High School for 12 years. When asked why he left, Lowell and he replied that he was ready for a change of scene and was looking for new challenges. Edelman also came to Lincoln because he was especially interested in college counseling, which Lincoln had an opening position in. In Lowell, Edelman did some college counseling among his other teaching duties.

“I’ve enjoyed my own years in college and it was always interesting to explore the great variety of college opportunities,” said Edelman.

In the first two weeks of school, Edelman has really enjoyed his time at Lincoln and has made friends with many students. Edelman has also been filling in for the peer resource program until the permanent teacher arrives in a few weeks.

“Peer resource has also been a lot of fun and has been a nice change of pace from college counseling,” said Edelman.

Carol Turner is the new math teacher at Lincoln. Prior to coming to Lincoln, she worked at Mission high school for one year substituting a teacher on maternity leave.

“I like the Lincoln students, they are very positive. Almost all my students do their work so I can count on them to be prepared for class. Students here at Lincoln are more responsible and more serious about learning,” said Turner, regarding how she liked Lincoln.

Turner has taught a vast knowledge of mathematics ranging from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus. She has also taught AP Computer Science and general computer knowledge but when asked which one she liked better, she quickly picked math.

“In computer science the languages are constantly being changed. Also math is used in everyday life whether it is music or science,” said Turner.

Carol Turner and Harlan Edelman make a great new addition to Lincoln. It seems as if they are enjoying themselves.

They have helped many new students and made many new friends. After a few weeks at school they seem to have gotten

used to Lincoln’s huge campus and all the rules that are enforced here. All the new teachers like it here at Lincoln and are eager to educate young students on and off of campus.
