Be original. Be scene
Men’s fashion is constantly changing. What’s in now? Tight, skinny jeans, preferably ripped, denim washed, acid washed, fitted band t-shirts, bandanas, and hoodies are a growing epidemic. Think emo, mixed with hardcore, and a bit of street, and there’s your next fashion trend. Snakebites are definitely key (two lip piercings on opposite sides of the bottom lip). Usually, this is called scene.
Honestly, seeing less men wearing their oversized pants down to their knees and shirts that look like dresses was getting old. I don’t know why it lasted as long as it did. Actually, I don’t know why it lasted period. Now, they’re calling huge, white girl sunglasses stunna shades. Hello, have you seen Laguna Beach(a reality TV show for those of you who aren’t television savvy)? Those obviously were not meant to be stunna shades.
Of course, you have the preppy boys. Frankly, I’m getting tired of the polos with the popped collars and the flip-flops on guys. I used to love it a lot, but too many people are dressing like preps to the extent where it’s as mainstream as ghetto clothing. But this is just how I feel. Seeing a particular style being worn by too many people tires me.
While metal used to be it’s own style, it’s now scene. Hardcore gave it bandanas and snakebites, while band t-shirts were passed on through all styles. Vests came from hippies, and skinny jeans came from punk. Scene hair (side part, usually black) came from emo. Dirty converse and skate shoes also came from punk, as well as skater. So, as you can see, scene is pretty much just a fusion of other similar styles, all of which I love.
Hopefully, scene takes over more of the ghetto styles. Stunna shades and Nikes will eventually fade away; at least I think they should. Don’t even get me started on those grills, people pay $200 for a thin strip of metal to put on your teeth and most people can’t even speak properly with them on! I think that’s just highly impractical. I mean, we live in San Francisco, shouldn’t the style be a little more diverse than just ghetto? I’m not saying that everyone should dress scene because that would make it too mainstream and I wouldn’t appreciate it as much. But I mean, let’s try something other than ghetto. Guys shouldn’t all wear one thing. It’s boring to see the same style everyday walking through the halls of Lincoln. Even the skater kids are few in numbers, and skaters are hot.
They should show different styles in movies, too. Now, it’s all about who looks more ghetto, who looks more street, but it shouldn’t always be like that. When they do show someone that’s different, it’s either a jock, a nerd, or some horribly portrayed alternative kid, who honestly doesn’t look alternative at all. But instead looks like they’ve been doused in Hot Topic clothes, on sale of course. I value seeing guys who don’t wear what everyone else is. I shouldn’t be forced to see them wearing all the same things. So, maybe guys will catch on and start wearing scene clothes. They just look that much better; in my opinion, of course.
