Closed Campus? Pro
by Vicky Lee
So we played out the rebel inside of us. We littered, we had iPods, we stole, we fought with each other. We were warned about closed campus but we didn’t care, we continued to act like children. When the administration decided to put their money to their mouth, we all complained even though we did deserved it. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with us?
Here’s my theory, we all believed that we had no part in closed campus and that we were being punished for a small fraction of people that were doing all those things. We placed blame on each other but not at ourselves. Sure, you may never litter or go out to school for lunch but you have the iPods, or you don’t speed but you cut class a couple of times. You see, we are a community and we all had our wrongs in this. We all had a part in closed campus. Maybe there is a small select group of people that are that perfect student, which I don’t think you are, but they should have done their part in keeping us from closed campus. We should have worked together and keep out gates open faster and earlier instead of the administrators closing campus.
Sure I’m not the perfect student. However, what really irked me was when the very first day campus was closed everyone was complaining how it was unfair, it was a bad idea, or that there were going to fights. Well, closed campus came and went, and there weren’t any major riots or fights. Besides, did you guys honestly thought that creating riots and fights would make the administrators open campus faster or even at all? Nope, it would just make them keep them closed forever.
Others probably thought that having two lunch periods was crazy and wouldn’t work because of the times. Well, you got me there. I agree with you that the first period lunch was too early and got hungry before the end of the day. However, may I remind you that it was a punishment. Usually punishment isn’t pleasant and accommodating, that’s why it’s called a punishment.
Then there are the people that said that it stinked how they couldn’t hang out with their friends during lunch due to the schedules. First of all, it’s lunch, you’re suppose to eat and that’s it. Secondly, maybe that was a chance for you to make new friends. Now, there is nothing wrong with making new friends. Finally, it goes back to the fact that it was a punishment.
Now we have our open campus again. We proved that we are the responsible young adult we claim to be. Sure, it was horrible that we had our campus closed but we deserved it. Because closed campus, I think that a lot of people grew up and decided to change their habits and that’s why we got it back. Closed campus wasn’t that bad, now was it? I don’t think so.
