Cost too high, scores too low
Are SAT classes really worth the money?
One of the most stressful times of a teenager’s life is preparing for the SATs. It’s filled with questions that supposedly tests intelligence, the SAT isn’t instructive whatsoever, contrary to its reputation.
I have attended SAT classes. On the first day my instructor confessed that SAT books could teach you everything, and for a motivated student, SAT classes were highly irrelevant. The courses serve as a catalyst to push lazy students to study for the SATs. If kids took the SATs seriously they could be saving their parents hundreds of dollars. Everything is taught directly from the book.
There are many alternatives to taking the SAT classes such as going to the free courses given by the public library, which is always free. Sure, library classes aren’t as fancy and as long as a paid class, but they do get the job done. My instructor I had was even willing to help in schoolwork. I felt that the library offered a better class. They even provide you with an SAT book for free.
In my case, the only good thing about the SAT class I took was that it got me acclimated to getting up early on a Saturday. Other than that, the testing environment is considerably different.
I don’t think SAT classes are really worth the time and money, but it all depends on the student. Factors such as your willingness to do the homework, plays into whether or not SAT classes are fit to you. For all of you future SAT test takers, don’t enroll in those classes. You could learn everything out of the book, and if you must take a class, take it from Library where it’s free. The only thing you have to take into consideration, is to be as serious as you can be to reap the benefits of SAT classes.
