Clean up or else
As many of you know the impending doom of the closed campus looms over us again. The constant complaints of litter and rowdiness have exponentially grown. Many of the neighbors have sent us letters of not only complaints, but of please of help.
Mr. Pang is ready to take away our privilege of open campus. Many of you guys know how it feels to be kept in at lunch like prisoners. Mr. Pang has given us repeated warnings in the bulletin and announcements.
Lincoln is tuning into a prison again, where all our actions and schedules would be dictated through the administration, where the administration tell us when to eat, when to study, when to go to the bathroom, when we can do anything.
As the Lincoln Log Staff, we believe that this must stop. We believe that we should make a change as a newspaper.
The no pass policy is a step towards a prison-like state. As the years went by, Lincoln has progressively gotten worse.
Many students have probably walked past the corner of 22nd and Rivera and have never seen the writing on the wall. The writing reads “Abraham Lincoln High School: A California Distinguished High School.” A tree now covers the word “Distinguished.” Maybe we aren’t a distinguished high school anymore. We firmly believe that we should still strive to become a distinguished high school.
We should be proud to be a part of “A Distinguished High School” rather that just a high school.
We must find a solution to this problem. Saying that “it’s the freshmen’s fault, it’s their fault, it’s not us,” doesn’t solve anything. We should band together as Lincoln students to solve the problems. No more cliques, no more groups of just “fobs”, or just “football players”. We shouldn’t be in many groups, we should be one big group.
Did we already forget about the Unity Wall, where all races banded together to create a mosaic? They all put their differences away to create one piece of art. Alone each tile was ugly, but brought together it was a beautiful piece of art.
The Lincoln Log has started a pledge to help stop this litter and violence. It was started so we can continue to become a “distinguished” high school. The link is www.pledgebank.com/KeepLincolnopen.
