Cellphones are a necesity
“Hey Jenny, did you know we have practice today?”
“really?”
“Yeah, i would have told you earlier but i don’t see you in the hallway and my phone got taken away for calling you.”
This is one of the many problems students face for not being able to use cellphones in school. When students have emergency, an urgent practice or meetings, it’s necessary for us to be able to use our cellphones as long as we are responsible for it.
Students may have emergencies, like if their parents can’t pick them up, or when a project is left at home. The person may not know that cellphones are not allowed during school so they call but then a teacher see the student with the phone and take it without even asking why he or she was using the phone. Cellphones can actually be helpful in some cases and surely, students are not the only ones who uses their cellphones.
We need to use a cellphone to contact our friends to tell or ask them.
Sometimes, a friend cannot make it to meetings and they need to get inform but you don’t see them at all, so a device of some kind will be needed. Which can be frustrating because we’re not allowed to use or be seen with a cellphone. if students aren’t informed of these emergencies then the next time they have a meeting or practice they missed something extremely important and that can affect the whole team.
Teachers and staff in school do not trust students enough to let us use electronics. Maybe as a classroom rule this would make sense, but not being allowed during passing period is ridiculous. (Our passing period is a time where we can socialize with friends while getting to class on time. We won’t be disrupting our class or cheat on a test so why is it still not allowed? )
If we have six minutes to spare before the next class starts why can’t we choose to text or call a friend if something important comes up. It is our right as young adults to be able to choose whether we want to use cellphones or not(as long as we’re responsible for it). This choice can make a difference to us, teachers and staff. Using cellphones can benefit teachers by not having to hassle with their phonebook to call someone when they can just press contacts and make a call. Having at least a couple of priveleges in school would mean that teachers and staff trust us and listen to what we have to say. especially cellphones which would make students gain more respect toward teachers and staff.
As high school students, or at least that’s what we’re called, we should have the chance to be heard. We are in the path of maturity and in order to succeed in that, trust is needed. Cellphones can be an important part of daily life, and with them life can be much easier. Therefore we should be able to use cellphones at least during passing period.
