Girl's tennis team puts down their rackets
The Abraham Lincoln’s girl’s tennis team finished off their fall season with triumph. The team trained hard, and even had practices over the summer.
“I [gave] the season thumbs up,” senior captain Jessica Wong said.
The team was a little rusty when they played in the past, but they have trained a lot more now and have gotten a lot better.
Coach Greg Simmons works hard to train these girls to reach their victory. Simmons says that all of his players are key players.
“The team gave me 100 percent, and have tried their best. I’m proud of them,” Coach Greg Simmons said.
Simmons’ enthusiasm did not go unnoticed.
“The coach is supportive, he’s not the type that would get mad at us if we lose. He wants us to have fun and try our best,” said Wong.
The team had set individual as well as team goals that they worked hard to fulfill this year. The team’s goals were to make it to playoffs and strengthen the team for next year.
“My goals are just to improve and take on new challenges. My goal at the beginning of the year was to become number one singles, and I have achieved that,” said Wong.
Junior Tina Quach is a new member to Lincoln Girl’s varsity tennis team this year. She trains as hard as everyone else, and had her own ambitions.
“I wanted to beat Lowell High School’s Girls Tennis,” Quach said.
The team met their expectation to make it to playoffs against other schools in the district and took fourth place in the division. The opponent high schools consisted of Lowell, Wallenberg High School, and Balboa High School. The Lincoln team played against Lowell in the playoffs. Although they did not win, they tried their best, and believe in themselves to do better next time.
“Our goal for next year is to get first in the city,” junior Denise Lee said.
