When the end of any season approaches, one expects that team members become sad or reminiscent of how the season went. It’s amazing how close a single team can become. The teammates have the same aspirations and hopes for the season. Such is the case with the boy’s soccer team.

Though their record was 7-9, the boys played each game to the fullest.

Senior Gerardo Abrego enjoyed the two years he’s been on the team. “I’ve always played soccer in the tennis courts during lunch. I joined the team last year because I really like soccer,” Abrego said.

Captain senior Sam Stewart has always liked soccer, and became reacquainted with it last year.

“Well, I played soccer in elementary school and middle school with friends to just have fun,” Stewart said.

“Then I took a two year break during freshman and sophomore year, which I regret. The soccer team is pretty chill.”

Senior Marino Rodriguez also joined last year, and said that he went into the new season with high hopes.

“I was hoping to win championships, especially since it’s senior year. I also wanted to build on the team chemistry that we had last year.”

Despite the members who’ve joined for two or more years, seniors Greg Jew and Curtis Lee joined this year.

“I didn’t really know about soccer until after the world cup,” Lee said.

“I always thought it was too much running and I didn’t see how it could be fun until I tried.”

This team certainly had optimistic and committed players. Many thought that they improved since last year.

“We played pretty good [compared to last year],” Rodriguez said.

“We needed to spend more time with each other though, so that we could understand and know each other’s abilities. But other than that, we played really good.”

Winning wasn’t everything to our boys. In fact, when asked about goals, most of the boys said that they wanted to just have fun and build on the chemistry more than anything else.

“It’s all about just getting out there and playing the game with your friends,” Jew said.

With much confidence for next year, the seniors leave the soccer team and wish the remaining players lots of luck.

“As a senior, I really wanted to win the championships, but after seeing our team I know that it won’t be a problem next year,” Rodriguez said. “We have really good players and it was fun getting to play with them one last time as a team.”
