The Lincoln mustangs have just gone into full swing for this year. So far, they have played two games, but unfortunately not winning either. Despite this minor setback, they still practice hard and long hours, in rain or shine, with time as no constraint. “I don’t care if we’re out here till dark. If we have something we need to work on, we’ll do it and work as hard as we need to win this thing,” head baseball coach Nick Palm said. Palm is a Lincoln graduate from the Class of 2004 and was a member of Lincoln’s baseball team for four years. Last year, Palm was the assistant coach, now this year he is leading the team as head coach.
Everyday you’ll see the baseball boys practicing under Coach Palm, following a strict training regiment. Practices start from after school until at least 5:30 p.m., consisting of a warm-up, and depending on the weather, defensive training, batting practice, and several other methods of conditioning.

Like every other team, good practice is key but working well with teammates and relying on each other on the team is essential.
“The atmosphere is really great. You can always see someone laughing, and everyone gets along with each other,” catcher and second baseman sophomore Jack Luong said.
Even with the slow start of the season, the team has high expectations of the upcoming games. “Right now it’s starting off slow, but I know the teams have talent. If we work on it, I know we’ll get better.” Luong said.
This year, the team certainly looks promising. Their hard training and enthusiastic atmosphere are sure to earn them some wins, and ultimately the championship. “We’re going all the way to the championship and I expect nothing less… they’re ready to win the championships as much as I am,” Palm said. They are unquestionably working at it.
