Soccer isn’t a game where the fate of the whole team revolves around a few individuals. The game takes teamwork and determination to win. The Abraham Lincoln High School girls’ soccer team has shown this with team spirit and hard work.

Soccer isn’t a game where the fate of the whole team revolves around a few individuals. The game takes teamwork and determination to win.

The team expects a lot out of their season due to their past records. “In the league we have the best team chemistry,” senior Alex Mogannam said. This will always be the force keeping the Lincoln team together. The team is aiming for the championships all the way.

“The freshmen here are pretty enthusiastic. They’re new and they want to play,” senior Vanessa Navarro said. The freshmen have brought in a new wind that will keep the team stronger together.

“[This year’s girls have] great attitude, good work rate and want to get better,” coach Danny Linx said. Linx has been with the Lincoln team for 15 years and started originally with other school team. Linx remembers also being here when Lincoln beat Lowell in the championships years ago.

They work on what they want to work on during practice but always maintain a smile on their face. The team tries to use practice as a real game so that when the official game arrives they are prepared to take their opponents on.

Soccer games are two sets of forty minutes. “If we winning 1-0 late in the game I would play defender, but if we where losing I would play a defender instead of a attacker,” Linx said. This is how the game progresses over two sets.

There are currently 20 players on the team and each player makes a contribution to their great team work. “We have very exciting matches and we need more fans,” Mongannam said. Though the crowd hasn’t been very lively, the team is hoping for a larger gallery to cheer them on.

The No. 1 competitor of the season is Lowell High School with their eight-year winning streak. “We have shown we can play with the best teams,” Coach Linx said. The team is ready to face and take down any opponent.
