Baseball players disappointed at season's loss

Key players forced to quit the team from lack of a 2.0 GPA

When asked about the season for Abraham Lincoln High school’s varsity baseball team, a few anonymous teammates replied by saying, “It sucked!”

Within their league, the team won nine games but lost four. The teammates were disappointed with the turn out of the season, and know they could have done better.

Some teammates believe their lack of success was due to the loss of many key players. They lost a few strong pitchers and hitters. These players were unfortunately cut from the team halfway through the season due to ineligibility. They either did not have a 2.0 grade point average required to participate in a team sport, cut class or were tardy enough times to be put on the cut list, or a series of both.

Other players have different opinions as to why they did not succeed.

“They were blinded by the fact that they thought they were really good,” junior Marquice Lewis said, “but in the end they had a good team.”

The team was used to winning, which made them somewhat cocky. They did not expect the season to end the way it did and were rather disappointed.

“We use ‘Do anything to win’ as our motto, but unfortunately some people didn’t agreed with it,” sophomore Will Aspelin said, catcher for the team.

There is the common belief that the team could have practiced more and worked harder. Although they are a great group of guys, they didn’t take the season seriously. Many were side tracked and did not play to the best of their ability, or for that matter, didn’t get to play at all. Although this season ended miserably, there is still hope among remaining team members.

“They came up a little short because they weren’t really focused, but next year they’re going to turn around,” junior MikePallouci said.
