Golf team putts an steady season
With a disappointing loss at the playoffs against Wallenburg High School, the golf season has come to an end. Despite this obstacle the golf team has had an overall good season, playing in a total of 14 games, record being 9-4.
Coach Steve Robinson has led the Abraham Lincoln High School golf team for four years. “[It was a] kind of an average season. The quality of the league has gone down resulting in about four or five teams that are pretty equal, but every match has been close and exciting,” Robinson said.
The golf team trains hard at practices to keep up with the demand of the game. Practices are usually at putting green, putting, chipping, hitting balls at the green and occasionally playing the 9-hole course. Preparing before a match “It’s more of a mental thing, just trying to keep the kids confident and positive because it’s a very difficult,” Robinson said.
Golf is more of a focus on technique rather than brute power. Golf is a lot harder than it seems, golf takes a considerable amount of patience as well as focus. It’s very frustrating when you cant hit the ball into the hole especially if the hole is so close. The wind, hills and other natural factors have to be taken into account when playing golf.
This year’s captain of the golf team was senior Christopher Chew. Chew’s goals for the team were to just be out there, and be a competitive team trying to do the best they can do. The future of the golf team seems to be in good hands. “We actually have a freshman that stands out,” Chew said.
