Mustangs take second in boys' and girls' varsity
Stuffy and humid air inhabits St. Ignatius’ packed swimming pool. Bathing suit clad students make up the majority, and the dozens I see swimming in the pool look like fish. The ones that catch my eye, however, are in bright red and yellow swim caps.
Six San Francisco high schools competed in the All-City tournament on Saturday, April 14, 2007. Those schools were Lowell High School, Abraham Lincoln High School, Washington High School, Galileo High School, Balboa High School, and Wallenberg High School. The competition consisted of four teams: Boys Varsity, Girls Varsity, Boys Junior-varsity, and Girls Junior-varsity.
All swimmers who competed Saturday were first required to first qualify for the swim meet trials the Friday before the race. Every school competed in a series of races consisting of freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke techniques.
Lincoln High School placed second for Boys Varsity, second place for Girls Varsity, second place for Boys JV, and fourth place for Girls JV. Lowell dominated the charts with their impressive cumulative three digit scores of 150 for Boys Varsity, 130 for Girls Varsity, and 121 for Boys Junior-varsity, while Lincoln High School was a bit behind them with scores of 67, for Boys Varsity, 78 for Girls Varsity, 60 for Boys Junior-varsity, and 70 for Girls Junior-varsity. Lincoln High School was well represented by many amazing swimmers in every category. Despite the fact that Lincoln High School did not place first, a few self-motivated swimmers are already looking forward to a victorious win next year.
