Mustangs couldn’t dig it out for the championship

As the ball reaches its climax into the air, swift hands move out, ready to deflect the ball before it could make it onto their side of the court.

Lincoln’s boys’ volleyball team share a bond and trust like no other. They must be able to trust each other’s abilities completely. As well as trusting each other, they must be able to multi-task.

Each player has their own positions and roles on the team. The middle back passes all of the balls that go to the corners of the court and is in charge of passing the ball. The people in the left and right back cover the tips of the court, as well as the center.

The hitters are located in the front, with the role of blocking the ball before the ball reaches the back. Basically, the main role of the hitters and setters is to keep the ball from going too far from the net. As the name implies, the hitters spike the ball back over. The setters set the ball, or set the ball up so that the hitters have an easy time hitting the ball..

Their lack of consistency has been one of their greatest obstacles yet to be overcome.

The season didn’t go as well as planned, with a record of 6-6. Their losses may be due to their lack of experienced players and recent gain of ‘fresh fish.’ Their lack of consistency has been one of their greatest obstacles yet to be overcome.

“It’s pretty much like every other sport, except in volleyball you probably need more communication. If you don’t talk, the people on the court will get mixed up and confused, and there will be chaos.” said senior Devin Choy.

Recently, the team made it to the play-offs against Galileo High School, whose team is currently at first place. Their recent wins over Burton and Lowell has helped to motivate this team to take it all. Unfortunately, the team lost to Galileo High School in the play-offs on May 6, 3-1.

The team has accomplished a lot this season, and though they did not take first place this year, they can always take it next year.
